TERMINOLOGY
( the basics. )

APATHY SYNDROME - a mysterious disease which swept through tatsumi port island like a plague years ago. it rendered victims unresponsive and turned them into vegetables; they lived their daily lives moving aimlessly or muttering every now and then. the real reason for this outbreak was due to the influence of shadows and the dark hour.

DARK HOUR – an extra hour at the stroke of midnight where most electronic devices cease to function, unless specifically built for the hour. the whole city becomes deformed in a sense of an eerie green sky, pools of blood on the streets, coffins, and silhouettes moving every now and then. illuminated in the middle of this warped world is a distorted tower which reeks “ death ” to those who set their eyes upon it.

TARTARUS – gekkoukan high school in its transformed state during the dark hour. it’s warped beyond belief and contains floors upon floors of different shadows lurking to feed on unsuspecting prey. it is said that all the answers were to be revealed when one reaches the very top of the tower.

SHADOW – creatures which exist during the dark hour. in truth they are personas who have failed to awaken & humans who were killed or succumbed to the hour’s reign. they fall under arcanas, the first twelve, granting them specific abilities and characteristics.

PERSONA-USER – people who wander and experience the dark hour regularly and capable of summoning a ‘persona’. majority of them have either sided with factions or work solo.

PERSONA – a human’s “other self”. each persona is unique to one another and categorized under the major arcana. they are easily summoned through evokers and can be called at any time, though there is a larger strain on the summoner when summoning in daylight.

POTENTIAL – citizens who can freely enter/experience the dark hour. at this point they will be constantly exposed to danger. some potential-users can awaken a persona though there are some who may never awaken their ‘other self’.

TRANSMOGRIFY – ordinary citizens who cannot enter the dark hour are transformed into coffins and sleep until this time passes. they cannot be harmed by the lurking creatures as long as they stay in their coffin. this does not mean that they can’t be pulled out; in this case, non-potential users are exposed to the hour and made vulnerable targets to shadows.

THE VOICE - a mysterious presence which calls and strings about sweet nothings in order to awake a citizen from their transmogrified state and bring them into the dark hour. it lures out people for shadows to feed on.

EVOKER – usually seen as a gun-like contraption used for summoning. the reason for its apparent shape is for a heightened sense of fear and rapid nerve movement to awaken “the other self”. it doesn’t actually shoot out anything. most users are given evokers from their respective alliances however they are also sold by shady characters. it is also possible to summon without using an evoker though extremely rare and harder to do.

SUPRESSANT – pills used to suppress the calling of a persona. it’s a dangerous gamble by tampering with a person’s health and psyche as it denies them full control of themselves: the normal self and their reflection (persona).

THE INCIDENT – an explosion which occurred ten years prior to the main storyline of persona 3; it is later revealed that this same incident was the cause of the dark hour, tartarus, and the existence of shadows.

ANTI-SHADOW WEAPON – right after ‘the incident’ android-like machines were built specifically for the dark hour to combat shadows; they are capable of summoning their own persona.

NYX - also known as “the mother of the night” in greek mythology she is said to be the bringer of death. when she awakens at the peak of tartarus “the fall” will commence.

THE FALL – also known as ‘apocalypse’ or “end of days,” it is the purging of humanity when nyx descends from the heavens and plunges the earth into a state of oblivion and darkness. this was stopped by the first generation SEES.
